I buy in bulk, so I had my sugar in a little plastic bag and waas opening the oven and frantically trying to sprinkle the sugar without letting too much heat out, not realizing I was resting the bag on the oven door – which, of course, put a hole in the bag and sugar went everywhere in the oven. Gather up the mixture and place it on a lightly floured surface and give it a few light kneading (not more than 10 seconds) so that it comes together to form a dough. Add to these things three busy kids having lots of fun with sports and music lessons and friends…I guess that explains where April went.

To make brioche a tete, grease muffin tins or fluted brioche molds. The dough is pretty sticky and wet, but I never roll it out... Folding a cup and a half of finely chopped fresh zucchini into cinnamon-spiked batter makes for a fragrant, veggie-laced quick bread that is moist, tender and so easy to make. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, flour your hands, and kneaded 4-5 times or knead it while still in the bowl (not traditional, but it seems to work for me).
