I also did the option of going to the Iguassu falls (I believe Patigonia extensions are also available which is worth visiting too) which I did for 3 days before the start of the trip which I found to be very good as it meant I had caught up with any time changes. As a result, the tiny water droplets and ice crystals remain suspended in the atmosphere as clouds. All it really says is that the GCMs will do better if tuned to a parameter (ice thickness) that has been observed to track well with recent reductions.
